Projects Below you will find anything of interest that we as a group or in singular are looking into. Brunswick Foot ![]() Because victory is the new black!Update ! 6 th May 2007Well we have made some progress, largely due to the ceaseless efforts of Michael Wright. Kudos also to Garth Hamilton for his somewhat isolated efforts in Bringing the NCO Kit to life and for finding some cool Waterloo medals for us (nice one Garth!), and Neville Brakenreg for sourcing patterns and other stuff that I am sure I have missed due to recent isolation. Lastly to the rest of the people involved in the project for their efforts in the workshops and altruistic wallet lightening. We can't say it has been easy thus far. Michael has had a lot of trouble sourcing our braid, and some of the other odds and ends for the uniform. Some of the work has been made easy by our brother regiment in Brunswick, they have showed us a good source for the glass buttons of the dolman (Teddy bear eyes if you can believe it!). Also manufacturing the skull badges for our Shakos (at a very reasonable fee). We have also had several false starts with tailors. It seems that no one in our local area of Brisbane Queensland wanted to take our money. So on the recommendations of the 42nd Highlanders in New South Wales Michael got in touch with a very nice lady in Canberra A.C.T. As it turned out she is not troubled by financial enrichment and has agreed to begin construction of our uniforms. Yay! It's only been about 6 months. This might be good progress in some areas but we are all impatiently awaiting the first set of three. We are hoping to have most of our Brunswickers ready for action in June and go along the "History Alive" event in Fort Lytton Brisbane Queensland. Look out for Pictures of that one. You can see some of our efforts in the gallery section of the website. Go on have a look...you know you want to. Project Whip: Michael Wright As our first serious effort several citizens involved with C1800 are slowly, oh so very slowly, putting together lovingly faithful impressions of soldiers in the army of the Duke of Brunswick. We are at present engaged in such conversational topics as; the best way to kill a Frenchman, who has the darker shade of black in their uniform, and exactly how many cases of beer is enough for a war gaming bash. So far we have sourced suitable wool for uniforms, patterns for back packs and garters, our water bottles, shoes, webbing, cartridge boxes, shako's, badges, and other items essential for a good impression. We would very much like to express our gratitude to the re-enactors in Brunswick Germany who have been very helpful, enthusiastically supplying us with information and reproduction pieces necessary to our uniform. Thanks are also due to the many industrious local re-enactors who have connections to the rare manufactures of period reproduction gear, and for the loan of their kit which we have happily plagerised. We are actively engaged in finding some one, any one, reliable who can help us with pattern making and garment construction. We have money people and we are not afraid to use it! Top |
